What is self-storage?

Self-storage is the rental of your own private, locked space or unit of varying size, which is rented on a month-to-month basis and an automatically renewing lease. For our climate-controlled storage units, you receive an electronic-access key fob to access the building. Your storage unit will be locked by your own unique lock and keys. Mattapoisett Self Storage does not keep keys to your locked unit.

What sizes are available, and how do I know what size I need?

Mattapoisett Self Storage offers a variety of storage unit sizes to accommodate your storage needs. Unit sizes range from 5’ x 5’ to 10’ x 20’ and many sizes in between. We invite you to come and tour our facility to view the various sizes we provide. This helps to determine how much space you will need.

What are the storage unit door measurements?

Our 5’ wide units have a 3’6” x 7’6” roll-up door.

Our 10’ wide units have an 8’ x 8’ roll-up door.

Our exterior 10’ x 20’ and 10’ x 25’ units have an 8’ wide x 9’ high door.

What are the ceiling heights?

All storage units have ceiling heights from 9’ high and up. Some of the interior, climate-control units have very high ceiling heights over 10’.

What happens if I select the wrong size unit or need to change the size of my unit?

If you need to change your unit size, you can conveniently increase or decrease your unit size (subject to availability) at any time, and we will prorate your rent.

How much does it cost to rent a self-storage unit?

What are your office hours?

Our staff is in the office Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. Weekend or after hours meetings are available by appointment.

What are the payment terms?

The first month’s rent is due upon renting the unit. Each month thereafter, the monthly rent is due on the day of the month you rented. All rentals are month-to-month. We do not prorate or offer daily rentals.

What payment types do you accept?

We offer the convenience of AutoPay from your checking account or any major credit card. We also provide online access to view or pay your bill.

How far in advance can I reserve a unit?

You can reserve a space as far in advance as you would like; however, all of our units are reserved on a first-refusal basis. If we are down to the last unit of that size, you will need to decide to rent it then or we will rent it to the next person who is ready for it.

Do you require a deposit to reserve a unit?

We do not require a rental deposit or administration fee.

How do I lock my unit, and is it secure?

You will be the only one with access to your storage space, as you provide your own lock and key. Mattapoisett Self Storage sells locks if you need one. Security cameras, which are located throughout our facility, are recording all activities, including our driveway entrance, grounds and building entrances 24 hours per day. The interior of our buildings, where our climate-controlled units are located, can only be accessed by those with a security code or proximity key. The grounds are well-lit during the night.

Who has access to my storage unit?

You can give anyone you wish access to your storage unit. It’s your responsibility to provide them with a key and an access fob. Mattapoisett Self Storage employees will not assist anyone who is not listed on the rental agreement, nor do employees have access to your storage unit.

Are there any limitations as to what I can store in my unit?

The following items are prohibited from being stored: flammable, odorous, explosive, noxious, corrosive, hazardous or biodegradable materials, as well as pollutants, illegal drugs and substances, weapons, live animals, food and seeds of any kind, including grass seed and mothballs.

Do you offer moving services?

Mattapoisett Self Storage does not offer moving services; however, we can suggest some local moving companies that previous customers have used.

Does your facility accommodate large moving trucks?

Yes. Moving trucks can pull right up to the building for loading and unloading.

How much notice do I need to give when I’m ready to move out?

Mattapoisett Self Storage requires notice on or before your monthly anniversary date. If notice is received after this date, the next month’s rent is due.

Do I need insurance on my items in storage?

If you wish to insure your belongings while in storage, you will need to purchase your own insurance. Mattapoisett Self Storage does not insure your stored belongings. Please check with your existing homeowners, renters or business insurance policy to see if it contains provisions covering property stored in off-premise locations.

When can I access my unit?

You may access your unit 24 hours per day, seven days per week, 365 days per year.

What is the difference between an exterior, drive-up unit and an interior, climate-controlled unit?

Exterior units are accessed by driving up to them, and they do not have heating or air-conditioning. Interior units are accessed through double sliding glass doors using an electronic key fob. These units have heating and air conditioning.

Do you offer outside storage for vehicles?

Yes. Please check with the office for rates and availability.

Do you have moving carts available?

Flatbed carts are available for your use inside each of the glass entry doors.

Do you sell boxes, packing and moving supplies?

Yes. Mattapoisett Self Storage offers a variety of boxes and moving supplies for your convenience.
